The man charged with keeping the grounds at the luxury Love2Stay holiday resort in Shrewsbury spick and span is loving the challenge.

Tom Pountney, 32, from Kinnerley. near Oswestry, joined leisure company Salop Leisure as head groundsman for the company and the Love2Stay resort at Emstrey last summer.

He joined from Salop Leisure’s five-star Seven Oak Holiday Park at Crew Green, near Shrewsbury, where he worked for 30 months, having previously been manager at Moreton Park Garden Centre for six years.

“I have always been interested in horticulture, landscaping and working outdoors,” said Tom. “Love2Stay is a fantastic place to work with stunning scenery and we have had brilliant feedback for the grounds here. The challenge for me is try to keep improving the grounds.”

Away from work, he enjoys fishing and cooking, as he’s formerly a pub chef.

This summer and earlier this month, he opened up his own garden at home to the public for the first time as part of the National Garden Scheme. He has spent the last four years transforming a quarter of an acre of land into the spectacular garden
