Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawcynski was told about the increased demand for caravans, motorhomes and staycations when he made a fact-finding visit to an award-winning leisure company in the town.

The Conservative MP met with Salop Leisure’s chairman Tony Bywater to discover what impact the Covid-19 pandemic is having on the business.

Salop Leisure is one of the country’s top caravan and motorhome dealerships which also owns the Love2Stay luxury camping and caravan holiday resort alongside its headquarters at Emstrey.

Mr Bywater said the business had introduced strict Covid-secure measures to safeguard customers and staff since reopening this summer.

He reported that the company is being kept busy meeting huge demand for touring caravans, caravan holiday homes, luxury lodges and motorhomes.

He explained that many people, who would normally holiday abroad, are now investing in caravans and motorhomes to staycation in the UK and he predicted this trend to continue in the years ahead.

“Customers still want to get away on holiday but do not want to risk travelling abroad because of the pandemic,” said Mr Bywater. “That’s why caravan holidays are proving so popular with people who are staycationing.”

He said he and Salop Leisure’s staff really appreciated Mr Kawcynski’s visit to the business.

Mr Kawcynski said: “UK holidays have never been so popular as people plan to holiday closer to home. The wide range of caravans and accessories available, together with their knowledge and excellent customer service, makes Salop Leisure well worth a visit.

“It was a pleasure to visit the team at Salop Leisure and my thanks go to Tony Bywater and his colleagues for the outstanding job they do. We are fortunate in Shrewsbury to have this amazing business.”
